There are two season for this region yatras. One is post monsoon and it starts in May and continue upto monsoon. Then second season starts from August to October.
I think post monsoon is better as heat is less and you can find some green cover in mountains !
I agree with Bharat that this travel should be inteligently planned that you could set as soon as monsoon recedes.
May is too hot and whole road is crowded- and perhaps this is why we see lot of accidents. There is also commotion of accommodation...so best option is to plan it in POST MONSOON period.
