Additional District and Sessions Judge Raj Shekhar Attri today convicted five persons in the infamous German tourist rape case.

The accused, Manvir Singh Jolly, Pankaj Punia, Harpreet Singh Dalli, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi and Sompal, were convicted under Sections 376 2(g) (gang rape), 473 (display of a fake number plate) and 363 and 366 (kidnapping) of the IPC.

Notably, the verdict in the case was pronounced within four months of the incident. The quantum of the sentence, however, would be pronounced tomorrow. Under these sections, the convicts could face life imprisonment or jail not less than 10 years, besides fine.

REFF: Rohit granted conditional bail

Goa Children’s Court today granted conditional bail to state education minister Atanasio Monserratte’s son Rohit. The court granted conditional bail asking him to report to the Calangute police station for next three days.

Justifying the withdrawal of complaint against a high profile minister’s son whom she accused of raping her minor daughter, the German mother said she was afraid that her daughter may become “Scarlett-II”.
